In Memory of Ratty

The loss of Ratty has touched us all in different ways. We know how many of you loved him and will miss him. Please us this area to leave any passing words of stories you have of The Rat. Thank you.

Today our friend Ratty passed.

Never has a dog been more loved by so many.
The little legend has touched us all in different ways.
His lust for life, his unfounded skills in orientation, he was always there to steer us home.
His uncanny ability to make us laugh, an unexplainable rock fetish, and the way he could coax a bit of steak or lobster from any unsuspecting punter.

He was a Romeo; no chick was safe from a St Bernard to a whippet.
The line continues, with many Ratty like pooches roaming the narrow Lagos streets.
He is still with us
As each year goes by, please toast our little mate Ratty on his birthday (4th of July).

We love you Rat, you’re an incredible dog we are so lucky to have shared in your life!
Thank you Ratty!
Dig that rock, dig it!!

Peace and love to you all.

Sincerely, Toby M, Toby G and Dave F.

Who's going to make sure I get home after a night on the lash in Lagos? And then wake us up again at 4.30am crashing against the door demanding to be let in?!

"If dogs don't go to heaven, when I die I want to go where they go..." Bye bye little guy x

I remember little Ratty! Sorry to hear that he is gone. He was a smelly, lovely little beach dog. May his memory live on!

So sorry to hear about little Ratty. On my numerous trips to the surf house, he was always there. Guess he's up in doggy heaven having the shag-fest of his life now...!! Go Ratty!

As usual the surfers were late back and I was sat on the step of the surf house waiting for the son so I could give him a lift back to where we were staying. Ratty was also waiting and we had a very deep and meanful conversation for about 45 minutes while we waited and put the whole world to rights. I will always remeber that evening.

He cannot have gone to a better place but I hope he is happy where he has gone.

Toby was driving us home from the beach one day when he decided to stop and throw Ratty out of the Landy when 1km away from home.

Ratty sprinted back to the house with the landy baring down on his little brown ass as it bounced up and down the streets of lagos.

Not only did he beat us, he then went out on the town and pulled with more ease then any of us in the house did.

Less a dog, more a four legged beach loving, bitch magnet. What a guy.....

My best memories of ratty is when i lived at Robs place out of town a couple of years ago. He would occasionally follow me home out of the hussle and bustle of summer time Lagos after dinner and a couple of early 1's, for a bit of peace and quiet. But it was the mornings that were so memorable when you got up, and just how excited he was to see you and start another day in the life, times and adventure of the one and only 'Ratty'. Greatly missed and never forgotten. Mikey-Surf-Ex.

Al I want to say, that times where difficult, we had just lost my dad and walking trough the streets of Lagos we kept seeing Ratty walking by, not knowing it was Ratty, I only met him later at your place when I joined for a surf day, he gave us so much joy and laughter, just what we needed, I hope there is somebody " up there" taking good care of him...because, even if it was only for a moment, he made my mom smile again...Thanks Ratty.

I only knew Rats a week or so but what we had was a lifetime of memories. He was a special little dog, a loyal, habitually horny lad, who always pulled off the hat trick when I would take walks down the street with him. He would follow me around town when I would do errands and would always obediently wait outside for me. We took him to the restaurant owned by the Scotsman one night and got him ready with a napkin aroud his neck and utensils in each hand. He will be severely missed by me - the best beach dog one could possibly want in life.

p.s. I hope the pics on the fridge of him in all his exploits still stand proud.

condolences,

sam

What sad news of bye bye Ratty. :-(

Back from my surf-time in Lagos I would tell friends back home (and afar) of that little rascal... how he would guide us home from the pub, bark at beach-rocks (what the fuuck???), ride shotgun in the van, pee on babies and little old ladies, etc. What a dog!

We'll all miss you little guy!

Say hi to my old-dogs Bimbo and Dobson when you meet them Up There!

rest in peace rat, i visited the surf experience in 2004 and returned to lagos in 2007, both visits were mind blowing sessions in the water and in the pubs and clubs of lagos, many a night i headed home to hear the clicking of the rats feet on the cobblestones as he guided me out of the maze. and showed me how to get to the chicken shop. a true legend, you will be missed buddy

besides his approving and stamping my white t-shirts with his ass..

'07 new years eve, music blasting, people shoutng and dancing .. and the rat was slumbering peacefully on the bar waiting to guide the hopeless and druken home. I think someone actually got him a pillow.
Joy.

sleep peacefully rat .. actually, who am i kidding .. cause more mayhem wherever you are. Stamp some angel robes :o)

i cant believe it, just looking on the website now and found out. i remember our first night at the surf experience was Ratty's birthday last summer and he had the best bbq ever. we were shocked as newbies to see how much love that dog had from all the locals, and thought it was crazy a dog had such a big bash including the happy birthday, but by the end of the 1st day we all shared the same love for the pooch!!! will miss him greatly and will be sad to see him no longer there when we come again to visit in the future. atleast you hopefully will still have his little humping friend(the one that barks when u squeeze him) to stand as a memory..

to ratty rip xxx

There was this party down at the beach and it seemed to be miles to walk to and so hard to get to, eventually we found it! there was over a thousand people there, it was mobbed with hundreds of people dancing all in one bit....Next thing this crazy Belgiun dood named Eve(who was staying at the surf house too)crouched down in the dancing crowd and pulled up this even crazier little dog named Ratty! The little Hero was like 'Put me down man, i've got shit to do' Legend!!
